Neely to retire from life insurers

The American Council of Life Insurers announced Susan Neely will retire at year end.

Above all, we congratulate Susan, celebrate her remarkable talent, treasure her friendship, and wish her well,” said ACLI Board of Directors Chair Paul A. Quaranto, Jr.

Neely joined ACLI as president and CEO in September 2018. Previously, she was president and CEO of the American Beverage Association for 13 years. Earlier in her career, she was special assistant to President George W. Bush, assistant secretary for public affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and senior vice president of the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Heidrick & Struggles will assist in the search for Neely’s successor.

Rogers resigns from hotel association

The American Hotel & Lodging Association announced William “Chip” Rogers has resigned from his position as president and CEO to pursue other professional interests. AHLA Senior Executive Vice President and COO Kevin Carey has been named interim president and CEO. 

“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Chip for his service to AHLA. We now begin a search for a new CEO to lead AHLA during this exciting time for both our industry and our association. The board and I look forward to working with the next CEO to advance our mission well into the future.”

Rogers joined AHLA as president and CEO in January 2019. Previously, he was president and CEO of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association for four years. He also served in the Georgia General Assembly for 10 years.

Carey has been AHLA’s COO and senior executive vice president since June 2017. Earlier in his career, he spent three years at American Express Global Business Travel.

AHLA will begin a search for Rogers’ successor in the coming weeks.

Chamberlain to retire from building owner groups

Building Owners and Managers Association International and Building Owners and Managers Institute announced President Henry Chamberlain will be retiring at the end of the year following 39 years with BOMA International. Senior Vice President Mary Lue Peck will succeed him Jan. 1, 2025.

“(Henry’s) openness to change, continuous learning, amiable leadership style and focus on the future have allowed us to grow and prosper. Mary Lue joined us two and a half years ago and has proven herself to be a strong leader who will be highly successful at building upon the initiatives we have been launching with an eye to BOMA’s future,” said BOMA International Chairman and CEO Bob Six.

Mary Lue Peck joined BOMA International in 2021 from the National Speakers Association, where she was president and CEO. She was previously chief content and engagement officer at the Institute for Supply Management for over 12 years.

Peck has a bachelor’s degree in information technology from the University of Phoenix and a master’s degree in management from Western International University.

Fraser to lead pathologists

The College of American Pathologists has named Michael Fraser its next CEO. 

“During our national search for a new CEO, I had multiple great conversations with Mike Fraser, imagining the possibilities for our specialty and our organization,” said Donald Karcher, president of the CAP. “Mike and I are both excited about him partnering with us on strategy, supporting innovation in pathology and the CAP, and helping us grow, while keeping our core, foundational objectives front and center.”

Fraser was most recently executive director of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, where he spent seven years. Previously, he was CEO and executive vice president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and CEO of the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs.

He has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Oberlin College, a master’s degree in management and leadership and strategy from Michigan State University and a doctorate degree in sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Kanter to succeed Fraser at health officials group

The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials announced Joseph Kanter will succeed Michael Fraser as CEO, effective April 8. Fraser was recently named CEO of the College of American Pathologists. 

"Dr. Kanter’s expertise navigating a complex policy environment, leading a dynamic team of public health professionals, and his compassion make him uniquely suited for this role," said Steven J. Stack, ASTHO president. "I worked collaboratively with him during his tenure as a state health officer and witnessed first-hand his ability to communicate to a broad array of audiences to build trust amongst colleagues, partners, and the public."

Kanter joins ASTHO from the Louisiana Department of Health, where he spent five years and was most recently state health officer. Previously, he was director of health for the City of New Orleans. He is also a practicing physician and clinical assistant professor of medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center and the Tulane School of Medicine.

He has a bachelor’s degree in history from Northwestern University, a master’s degree in public health and a doctorate in medicine from Tulane University.

Staff Departures

American Dental Association—Jim Goodman has left his position as chief business strategy and product portfolio officer. Goodman joined the group in 2009 as managing vice president of conferences and continuing education. He has joined the North Carolina Dental Society as executive director and CEO. 

Staff Arrivals

American Beverage—Ryan Guthrie has been named executive vice president of government and public affairs at AB. He was previously head of government affairs at Chipotle Mexican Grill and vice president of government relations for the Coca-Cola Company, where he spent 11 years.

National Automatic Merchandising Association—Nicole Tardif has joined NAMA as senior director of communications and marketing. She was most recently public relations manager for The American Legion. Earlier in her career, she was deputy press secretary for the Republican National Committee.
